Bio
Julie Ann Stewart writes.
She also walks, bakes, sews, mothers, naps, holds babies, reads (a lot), and bikes.
She likes to talk to the squirrel that sits at her kitchen window and waits for snacks.
Despite repeated attempts, she cannot hula hoop.
She loves Blackwing pencils, buttons, neckties, and matchboxes.
She drinks tea, not coffee.
She is a literary witch, conjuring written spells to call up stories that have gone untold for far too long.
She earned an MFA from Spalding University and has published stories in Good River Review, Litro Magazine, PoemMemoirStory, and Punch Drunk Press. Her story collection Water and Blood was published by Dzanc Books in April 2022 and was the winner the Dzanc Books Short Story Collection Prize. In her blog Sophie Speaks, Stewart explores the challenges of balancing creative work and family life, as she recopies Anna Karenina by hand, as did Sophia Tolstoy for her husband. She is currently at work on a new collection of stories.
